There was briefly a French colony in NZ too - its remnants can be seen in the lovely town of Akaroa, near Christchurch. I loved New Zealand. The Waitomo glow worm caves were beautiful. Incredible restaurants, very fussy police keeping things under control politely. Do NOT go over the speed limit! They ticket for as little as 2 miles over.

The kiwis are outdoorsy and fit. The country is stunning, and feels like s small town US. It was great.

We need progressive people here. Not sure why someone is losing their shit over slaughter houses. Farm animals in the USA can only dream of that shit, sadly. Yes, but not all NZ is halal slaughter - I have no idea where you came up with that. Vegan propaganda? I guess vegans have to find something to complain or bullshit about, even when their own countries are far worse examples. But he says it that it's boring as fuck.

Auckland felt like a boring backwater, to be honest. There are some awfully good world class restaurants there but very little else to recommend it. After being bored out of skulls there, my partner and I took a minute ferry ride to Waiheke, a beautiful little island off the coast of Auckland and truly enjoyed it for days. The South Island is amazing, though, and I can't recommend it enough. If you can, take an overnight cruise out of the Doubtful Sound into the Tasman Sea.

To be fair to the North Island, we haven't been to the north of Auckland, which is the Maori country but it's reputed to be beautiful in a very wild, unspoilt way.

The people were super nice and friendly everywhere we went, more so then, say, Australians. I don't understand what your problem is.

Cruising the Cities of New Zealand

Where did you even get the false info from??? I live here, eat meat and have visited abbatoirs for work. Only people in extremely rural areas use halal methods.

Meat is one of our biggest exports - do you think everyone has the time to do it themselves or in a more formal halal manner? You really are an idiot. Like R says - go start your own thread on halal slaughter using your own clearly make up facts and figures. For now, you are blocked. Have fun with your sanctimony.

So you haven't seen it.

I don't really have a problem with it, actually. I have a problem with your having made an implicit assessment of it without having seen it. Aussie here who visits NZ a lot. Hot men. Friendly people with a wicked sense of humour. Much more socially progressive than Australia too. Been, but only to the South Island. Which was rather damning, so we didn't.

Gay dating in New Zealand

Much softer culture than Australia, which is very aggressive. Very pretty in parts, but the parts are separated by vast distances. If you're in the Northern Hemisphere just visit Norway, because after you've seen the scenery, you can be somewhere interesting in 30 minutes. In New Zealand you will drive for 3 hours, and still be in Bumfuckleville. Also, in scandi, the men are much more handsome. In NZ, not so much.

Some of the maoris are handsome, but God wasn't kind to polynesians when handing out cocks. White NZ men tend to be stocky with huge thighs. Very strange. Nicer than Oz men, in that - as said previously, they are softer in the manner they present themselves. South Island country towns are surprisingly poor. Not Detroit poor, but neat and tidy poor.

Weird binge drinking culture with the white youth similar to England. Still deeply provincial and super sensitive to outsider criticism. Brilliant take on NZ from a gay and general perspective from an English writer. He pens frank stuff that no one else would dare. NZ went bonkers when the book was published. Currently living in small town hell in Enzed. I lived overseas for ten years and came back and lived with me mum. It's a strange place - the country folk most of us vote against their interests again and again.

The cities are VERY different to the small towns. Auckland is great in parts, but very LA in the sense that it is spread out - suburbs linked by highways really.

I really can't believe people would want to visit. I love it here, but it's really not that interesting. I'd come if you were into birdlife and tramping etc but it's not that great tbh. Nobody is interested. New Zealand is no different than any other dairy producing country in the world who cater to specific export consumer markets. I love the stories of the boys stuck in the Christchurch sauna during the earthquake. What a trip that would have been!
