About this book

Higher HIV risk perception, intimacy motivations for condomless sex, recent condomless anal sex with outside partners, education, and age were each independently associated with PrEP adoption intentions. In a multivariate model, only age, education, and intimacy motivations for condomless sex were significantly associated with PrEP adoption intentions. Incorporating relationship dynamics into biomedical strategies is a promising avenue for research and intervention. Biomedical intervention approaches, including antiretroviral pre-exposure prophylaxis PrEP , have been demonstrated to reduce HIV incidence among several at-risk populations and to be cost effective.

However, there is limited understanding of PrEP access and uptake among men who have sex with men MSM residing in relatively rural states. Twenty semistructured interviews were conducted August-November to assess opinions of and perceived barriers to accessing and adopting PrEP among MSM residing in Oklahoma. Participants perceived substantial barriers to accessing PrEP including a stigmatizing environment and less access to quality, LGBT-sensitive medical care.

Overall, geographic isolation limits access to health providers and resources that support sexual health for Oklahoma MSM. Addressing stigma situated across ecological levels in an effort to increase adoption of PrEP by MSM residing in rural states remains necessary. Without this, social determinants may continue to negatively influence PrEP adoption and sexual health outcomes.

Jamaican men who have sex with men MSM have experienced widespread stigma and discrimination. We examined the social and romantic relationships of Jamaican MSM and how these factors fostered a sense of community in an antihomosexual environment. Women and familial matriarchal figures were more likely to accept someone identified as homosexual and provide protection against homophobia. Jamaican MSM affirmed their identity by providing emotional support and safe spaces, which aided in building a sense of community.

Relationships with friends and intimate partners were a source of love and validation as opposed to simply sexual gratification.

The social and romantic relationships of Jamaican MSM transcended the social boundaries of homophobia, affirmed sexual identity and orientation, and served as facilitators across most general societal and cultural interactions. Published by Elsevier Inc. This study employed both qualitative focus groups and quantitative questionnaire survey methods to obtain information from 15 MSM CBOs in three Chinese cities. As it was shown in the graph, the survival and development of MSM CBOs was closely related to the development of international cooperation projects.

As a result, the number of MSM CBOs was increased sharply, and both the scale and , the performance of these programs further promote the establishment of new MSM CBOs and the development of all MSM CBOs with regard to the work places, full-time staffs, work contents, work patterns and the specific targeted population.

After , most international cooperation programs were completed and the local department of disease prevention and control continued to cooperate with MSM CBOs. However, the degree of support funds from the local department was different among different regions. All sequences clustered with two of the three strains identified in the current European HAV outbreak. We demonstrate that despite an efficient vaccination programme, HAV can still be transmitted to an unvaccinated high-risk population.

This article is copyright of The Authors, This short report aims to understand factors associated with engagement in two types of activities with varying levels of visibility: HIV-related community events and HIV-related community action, in Taiwanese men who have sex with men MSM living with HIV. In multivariable analysis, age, involvement in ASOs, and AIDS knowledge were positively associated with engagement in community events, and living in the north of Taiwan, years of infection, and self-stigma were negatively associated with this type of engagement.

Few factors, with the exception of involvement in ASOs, were positively associated with engagement in HIV-related community action. To this end, ASOs appear to play a strong role in improving and organizing both types of community engagement in Taiwan. Future studies should evaluate tailored programs delivered through ASOs for strengthening community connectedness among younger, stigmatized, and longer diagnosed MSM living with HIV.

Correlates of condomless anal sex among men who have sex with men MSM in Tijuana, Mexico: The role of public sex venues. Condomless anal sex between male partners is the primary risk factor for HIV transmission among men who have sex with men MSM. Correlates of condomless anal sex have been well-studied in developed countries, but they have received less attention in lower-to-middle income countries LMIC , where MSM are often subject to stigma, discrimination, intolerance, and even the criminalization of same sex behavior. The present study examined correlates of condomless anal sex among MSM recruited in Tijuana, Mexico, with a focus on the role of public sex venues in relation to sexual risk behavior.

Eligibility requirements were: biologically male, 18 years of age or older, resident of Tijuana, and self-reported anal or oral sex with a male partner in the past year. Participants completed an interviewer-administered, demographic and psychosocial survey, and were tested for HIV and syphilis. A hierarchical multiple linear regression model was tested to identify correlates of condomless anal sex. Higher levels of condomless anal sex were associated with higher levels of depressive symptoms, greater sexual compulsivity, and more frequent seeking out of sex partners in a public venue in the past 2 months.

Individuals who disclose their sexual orientation are more likely to also disclose their HIV status. Disclosure of HIV-serostatus is associated with better health outcomes. The goal of this study was to build and test comprehensive models of sexual orientation that included 8 theory-informed predictors of disclosure to mothers, fathers, and closest friends in a sample of HIV-positive Latino gay and bisexual men.

US acculturation, gender non-conformity to hegemonic masculinity in self-presentation, comfort with sexual orientation, gay community involvement, satisfaction with social support, sexual orientation and gender of the closest friend emerged as significant predictors of disclosure of sexual orientation. Epidemiologic data for MSM in southern Africa are among the sparsest globally, and HIV risk among these men has yet to be characterized in the majority of countries. In multivariate logistic regressions, being older than 25 aOR 4. Sexual concurrency was common with Unprotected anal intercourse was common and the use of petroleum-based lubricants was also common when using condoms.

Further epidemiologic and evaluative research is needed to assess the contribution of MSM to southern Africa's HIV epidemics and how best to mitigate this.

HIV Data in Action - Update on the use of molecular data to focus prevention

These countries should initiate and adequately fund evidence-based and targeted HIV. Significantly more African-American, low-income and HIV-positive participants were recruited via the nonprofit. The best cost-benefit tradeoffs were for organizational Facebook posts, email groups, personal networking, and nonprofit recruitment. Grindr increased the size of the sample, though at greater expense. Facebook and Scruff advertisements and gay bar outreach represented greater costs than benefits.

A mix of online and offline recruitment venues can generate a large and diverse sample of MSM , but venue performance is uneven. Optimism, community attachment and serostatus disclosure among HIV-positive men who have sex with men. Based on self-reported disclosure to casual partners, participants were classified according to their pattern of disclosure consistent, inconsistent or non-disclosers.

Classification as an inconsistent discloser compared to a consistent discloser was associated with higher GCA.

The study provided novel quantitative evidence for associations between the constructs of interest. The results suggest that 1 HHO is associated with reduced disclosure, suggesting optimism may preclude individuals reaping the benefits of serostatus disclosure and 2 HCA and GCA represent competing attachments with conflicting effects on disclosure behaviour. Limitations and areas for future research are discussed. HIV prevalence appears to vary widely between MSM from different ethnic minority groups in this country for reasons that are not fully understood.

Internet-based quantitative and qualitative research methods were used. Ethnic minority MSM were recruited through advertisements on websites, in community venues, via informal networks and in sexual health clinics.
